Judi, numită uneori şi „bunica” mişcării nebunilor, a început munca sa de pionierat pentru alternative care să dea forţă, putere beneficiarilor de servicii de sănătate mintală şi supravieţuitorilor psihiatriei cu cartea „Pe cont propriu: alternative controlate de pacient în sistemul de sănătate mintală” (1978).

Judi has sometimes been called the „grandmother” of mad movement, beginning with her pioneering work for empowering alternatives for mental health service users and psychiatric survivors with her book “On Our Own: Patient Controlled Alternatives to the Mental Health System” (1978).
